An alpine meadow at 3,300 m beneath the Rakhiot face, reached by jeep and an hour on foot.

German climbers named it Marchenwiese, fairy tale meadow, in the 1930s. It sits at about 3,300 metres on a shelf directly beneath Nanga Parbat's Rakhiot face, surrounded by pine forest.

Getting there means a jeep up one of the more alarming mountain roads in Pakistan, then roughly an hour walking. It can be done as a very long day from here, but staying a night is far better — the mountain at dawn is the entire point.
