Nanga Parbat rises 8,126 metres at the western anchor of the Himalaya, where the range finally runs out of mountain. Its Rupal face is the highest continuous rock and ice wall anywhere — roughly 4,600 metres from base to summit.
From the hotel you see the Rakhiot side on a clear morning. For the classic view you drive south to the Raikot bridge and, if you have the day, take a jeep up towards Fairy Meadows. The mountain is often hidden behind cloud; when it clears you get perhaps twenty minutes of extraordinary light, so keep a camera within reach.
